Ban the FT and create US jobs

    From Mr Samuel J. Sharp.
Sir, As everyone rushes to play Keynes, please allow me the role of Bastiat.
In order to create the 19m jobs needed to solve the US’s woes, (“Create jobs to rebuild America’s economy”, February 13), let us ban the FT from US circulation forthwith. If only we extend our Buy American laws to include newspapers, you dastardly Brits couldn’ use your superior reporting and analysis to destroy so many jobs in America.
Ban the Pink ‘un and surely new work will sprout up in newsrooms all across the US. Without such menacing competition, our inferior dailies will fly off newsstand shelves until paper is scarce. Logging towns will have new union jobs for lumberjacks and US factories will open to supply the axes. Textile mills will increase staff to keep up with the rising demand for flannel, and cotton producers will be busier than ever. Since new infrastructure will be needed to connect all these glorious producers, construction jobs will be created by the millions.
If this still isn’t good enough for full employment, order the existing copies of the FT to be burnt by candle and save the American candlemaker!

    满纸荒唐言。
